Grindhouse
Though critics gave praise to the combo-production Grindhouse from the minds of Tarantino and Rodriguez, the film failed to perform at the box office. It turns out that Dimension should have done a little more homework on the film before releasing it, with the main poll asking viewers, "What do you think of the film's loooong length."
Grindhouse Splits Up
It doesn't matter how good a film is, three hours is hard to take in - especially when the film(s) pay tribute to a cheap horror genre.
According to DeadlineHollywoodDaily, Harvey Weinstein is very disappointed with Grindhouse's opening bow. Well, duh. With an opening projected at a $20 million minimum, one can assume that an $11 million take is nothing short of blowing donkey balls. What's the solution?
How about solving the whole running time dilemma by splitting Grindhouse in two? But then who gets the faux trailers?!
Harvey Weinstein told me this morning that he's "incredibly disappointed" with the half-than-expected $12 mil box office for Grindhouse released on Easter Weekend (a controversial move itself). So much so, that he's considering abandoning the double feature as a single feature concept and re-releasing the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez movie around the U.S. "in a couple of weeks" as two separate feature-length movies with additional footage put in.
The Weinstein Co. already had this move planned for international distribution for the film, so why not the U.S.? If they do decide to go forward with this plan, then I encourage you to see Grindhouse now, while you can still get two-for-one.
