Placing 'R-rated' and 'fantasy' in the same sentence is usually on oxymoron according to Hollywood standards. Think about it, the fantasy genre has always enjoyed riding on the 'Hard PG-13' rating. Lord of the Rings featured decapitated heads, and it still got a PG-13. Now we have Stardust, a fantasy adventure that looks like it wouldn't dare border even close to 'Hard PG-13' but, according to Hollywood Reporter, reprinted at Joblo, the film scored itself an 'R'.
What?!
Stardust Rated R?
Upon hearing the news that Stardust could be 'Rated-R' I decided it would be best to watch the trailer a couple more times to figure things out. Unless the film has f-bombs and nipple slips in every other second not shown in the trailer, I cannot possibly figure out why the MPAA would figure it necessary to tag the film with 'R'.
"fantasy violence and risqué humor"
That is now enough to label a film with 'R'? Does anybody else think we are over censored?
I haven't received any official confirmation from Paramount, but this rating could mean doom for Stardust; which has so far screen tested very well with audiences.
