Rocky Balboa
The deleted scenes on this DVD are great. Most of them should have been in the movie. It wasn’t so long that they couldn’t have had a few more touches. All the scenes are presented in full, polished, anamorphic video so they look like scenes from the completed film.
DVD Review: Rocky Balboa
There are a few more touches of the world changing around Rocky, as he has to wear a hairnet in the meat locker now and the raw eggs don’t go down as well as they used to. We need this stuff. These are the signposts of the Rocky saga.
A scene of Pauly crying, spelling out that he wishes he’d gotten cancer instead of Adrian, is rightfully gone. I don’t really believe people in Pauly’s situation identify their feelings so specifically.
A slow motion sparring scene set to classical music may be a little too Raging Bull. They should have just set it to “Gonna Fly Now” because we needed to see a little more training. Rocky takes a bad hit which is realistic and informs his situation going into the fight.
The alternate ending is simply the opposite of what’s in the film. It’s not as meaningful in terms of the series’ continuity, but it plays just as well.
