With upcoming fantasy films such as Stardust (still) receiving a great response from audiences, it looks the genre has no reason to slow up just yet. Still looking for their "next great fantasy," 20th Century Fox has acquired the screen rights to the upcoming fantasy novel The Seems. Since Night at the Museum did well, the studio will set the project as the directing a producing vehicle for Shawn Levy.
Shawn Levy to Direct The Seems
Like most fantasies, The Seems: The Glitch in Sleep, is the first installment in a multi-book series.
To be adapted by scribes John Hulme and Mike Wexler, The Seems tells the story of a parallel world where everything that humans take for granted is manufactured and designed. When a glitch occurs, a young boy is drafted to correct it and save the world.
"This is such a visually original and fresh world, where memory, weather, sleep and things like that are created," Levy told Daily Variety. "I've been working with Fox to find the next major all-audience franchise, and we feel that if we nail the screenplay, this has the potential to fit that bill, with the same humor, family friendliness, and lack of condescension."
Levy was put on to the book by his agents at Endeavor. The director is currently prepping The Hardy Men for Ben Stiller and Tom Cruise.
