Dylan Baker can usually be trusted to bring some edge to even a small bit part in a movie or TV Show. What we've never seen him do before is action. Thanks to Fox's new show Drive, we'll see him behind the wheel swerving through traffic and dodging wrecks. But the real obstacle to his character will be his teenage daughter.
Dylan Baker Knows Best in Drive
"It's a great opportunity," said Baker. "I'm very excited about it. Emma [Stone] is just fantastic. To get a daughter, I've worked with some good actors but when you're in a relationship like that that you know the two of you is so important, and to have no time, just like boom, here we go, and she's great. She's just ready to role. She's 18 years old, totally confident, totally ready to throw herself into the thing and there was no real learning curve. It was just like hey, we're ready, let's go."
Of course, Baker has played some notable parents before. This one looks to be more TV friendly. "Yeah, the relationships I've had as a father have been very different in many different ways. This one is going to be more of a real learning process for the guy, for John. I think his life has been wrapped up in building rockets as an astrophysicist and now all of a sudden it's him and his daughter in this car and they've got someplace to go and they're going to get there. It's that hours and hours of time together that I think are going to be pretty interesting."
Most of the show's driving scenes are shot on a green screen stage. Baker is familiar with that work, though not from the projects one might expect. "I've done it not on Spider-Man 3 but like The Pitts, we did a lot of green screen stuff. A lot of different stuff but there's going to be a whole lot more in this. The first day, I loved it, we got so much done and we were able to put a bunch of scenes together which as an actor, you love that."
Since Baker dropped the bomb, we did press for a tidbit on his Spider-Man 3 involvement. "It's still Doc Connors is the guy that Peter Parker has to go to for info. He runs into all kinds of things that he doesn’t understand so I'm his answer guy."
Though Connors is set up to become the Lizard, the fact that it hasn't happened yet doesn't dissuade the actor. "Well, you don't know. It's still down the road possibly."
