With Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End looking to be the final installment of at least the Pirates trilogy -- notice I didn't say franchise -- it comes as no surprise that the film is going to be long. When you have an epic story coming to a conclusion it takes some time to close out all the plotlines; and last time I checked Pirates of the Caribbean had about 6,723 still open.
A running time that goes beyond two hours is expected. But the idea of sitting in a theatre for three-plus hours already makes my butt tingle.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End Running Time
Sitting in a theatre for over three hours is a daunting task. Even the best films -- Return of the King and Grindhouse for example -- can have audiences fidgeting in their seats in order to keep circulation going.
According to FilmJerk, reprinted at Joblo, Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End will have a running time of 170 minutes. With something this long we have got to play the "Exactly How Long" game.
170 minutes easily equates into two hours and fifty minutes or, even better, 10200 seconds. Since it takes on average about ten minutes to run a mile, you could better spend your time knocking off unnecessary pounds in time for summer by running 17 miles or by boosting your tan (let's say) eight shades.
It doesn't end there. Since Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End is bound to be huge, expect long lines and tons of trailers. Factor in seven trailers at 2:30 each plus the need for you to arrive to the theatre at least forty minutes early.
Carry over the two and we can now conclude that At Worlds End will sacrifice just about 230 minutes of your day. Or, to the layman, just under a whopping four hours.
Oh the things you could have done with those 230 minutes. Visit Grandma. Clean out the garage. Hit the gym. You name it.
Does that mean I suggest you don't go see Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End?
Hell no! When the hell did I ever say that?! Screw Grandma.
