Making ground on the screen adaptation of the John Patrick Shanley play, Doubt, Miramax films have picked up both Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman to star.
Streep, Hoffman for Doubt
Doubt takes place in a Bronx Catholic School in 1964, where the principal (Streep), a nun who's a strict disciplinarian, makes pedophile accusations against a popular priest (Hoffman). Still to be cast is a young nun caught between them.
John Patrick Shanley will both adapt the script and direct. Scott Rudin will produce in the fourth project he has brought to Miramax.
Final deals are currently being negotiated with both Streep and Hoffman in order to have production ready to begin this December.
Streep has recently wrapped both Rendition and the Robert Redford-directed Lions for Lambs. She will next star with Pierce Brosnan in the adaptation of Mamma Mia! for Universal.
Hoffman has also recently wrapped two films including Before the Devil Knows You're Dead and Charlie Wilson's War. Next up on his to-do list is Synedoche, New York.
