Suicide Killers
I haven’t seen a one sided argument like this since those long summer rallies I attended in Pyongyang, North Korea.
DVD Review: Suicide Killers
Pierre Rehov claims that he is going to show us into the minds of the suicide bombers but what ends up happening is Rehov’s self righteous march towards the conclusion he surely already had prior to making this movie. Namely, that all Muslims are violent extremists and it’s due to the apparent sexual oppression that Islam instills.
While Rehov does get some intimate interviews with would be suicide bombers and the families of those who have succeeded in their missions, he never seems to really get down to why these Muslims feel the need to take their own life and inflict damage and horror to innocent people.
The overall impression of the film is that Muslims are almost sub-human and that they are nothing but fanatical maniacs. What is missing from the film is a voice from those Muslims who denounce acts of terrorism (European scholars are quoted in the film arguing this point but never a Muslim) or even a basic mentioning of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and the fact that since 2000, 4 more Palestinian civilians have died to every 1 Israeli due to violence towards each other.
Rehov’s claim that the idea of martyrdom is simply because of the sexual oppression undergone in this life on earth and the promise of, let’s put it mildly, sexual freedom in the afterlife, while interesting, says nothing about the power of persuasion and the thought of what one would do when they felt like they had nothing left to lose.
While I’m not blindly defending the suicide bombers or their tactics, one has to understand that there are two sides to every argument, two sides which were definitely not equally portrayed in this documentary.
