Jason Statham
Though his career kicked off with dark crime in Guy Ritchie movies, Jason Statham has proven himself to be quite the action hero with over-choreographed fight sequences in the Transporter films and insane action in Crank. Sticking close to the genre, Statham has been picked up by Universal Pictures to star in Death Race.
Jason Statham for Death Race
A remake of Roger Corman's cult classic, Death Race tells the story of a dystopian future America in which the president presides over an ultraviolent road race from New York to Los Angeles. One of the ways that drivers score points is by mowing down innocent bystanders using their heavily armed cars. The film was released in 1975 and starred David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone.
Paul W.S. Anderson will write and direct with Tom Cruise and Paul Wagner in position to produce through their Cruise/Wagner Prods.
The project was originally set up at Paramount as a Cruise vehicle.
Statham has a few projects coming our way including Dungeon Siege, War, The Bank Job and The Brazilian Job.
Death Race should begin filming late summer or early fall.
