And then there were six. How will the competition be sans Sanjaya?

This week in honor of ‘Idol Gives Back’, our contestants are singing songs that inspire. There was moving footage of people in the United States and Africa who need our help. Let’s all do our part.

Time to break it down from best to the rest.

American Idol S6 (Finalist) Episode 7 Recap

1. Jordin – “You’ll Never Walk Alone” the 1945 classic by Rodgers and Hammerstein from the musical “Carousel” – a goose bump inducing performance – amazing – Randy said one of the best vocals ever on six seasons of Idol, the hottest tonight – Paula said amazing song, glorious, lovely job – Simon said fantastic, the song is 60 years old but she could have a hit with it today.

2. Melinda – “There Will Come a Day” by Faith Hill – strong ballad, really brought it at the end – consistent – Randy said resident pro, every performance is great – Paula said there’s no one like you, magical – Simon said not a copycat performance, made it her own, vocal master class.

3. Chris – “Change the World” by Eric Clapton – put his own spin on the song – special ending – he would have been such a great lead in a boy band – Randy said in it to win it for the first time in a long time – Paula said good song choice – Simon said the competition starts tonight (Chris performed first - is that a dig at Sanjaya?), soulful & sexy, did really well.

4. Phil – “The Change” by Garth Brooks – strong – passionate vocal – Randy said nice vocal, two in a row – Paula said fantastic, his best – Simon said good choice of song, should connect more with the country side and will do well, people like him.

5. LaKisha – “I Believe” by Fantasia – after singing Carrie Underwood last week, I thought she would give up on former Idol’s songs – what happened to that girl who knocked us out with “I am Telling You”? – Randy said good song choice, couple of pitch problems, not her best – Paula said powerhouse vocalist, followed by much stammering Simon then interjected and said what Paula is trying to say is she preferred Fantasia’s version, thinks she’s shouting.

6. Blake – “Imagine” by John Lennon – nice – not too much to it – I know it is a simple song, but it seemed lacking – Randy said ah right, just O.K. for me – Paula said this was the first sensitive emotional song from him – Simon said tricky, one of the big songs of all time but didn’t go anywhere with it, sang it with sincerity.

Wednesday night is the “Idol Gives Back” two hour concert and results show. Ryan has promised us one of the biggest shocks ever on Idol.
