Disney/Pixar has released two new podcasts for their upcoming animation Ratatouille that give us an inside look at the film's story and technical aspects.
Podcasts: Ratatouille
The first new (officially second) podcast is titled "Cooking 101" and features an introduction from Michael Warsh -- who is not only the Department Manager for the Sets and Layout group, but was also the Culinary Consultant. Talk about diverse! Warsh has the background, as he was once a chef.
It is his job to give the animators an idea of what goes on behind the swinging doors of a restaurant. They should have hired me, however, since I have worked in a multitude of restaurants from steak houses to Chili's. What? Daddy needs to eat.
The clip is long, so make sure your boss or teacher won't be stopping by for the next ten minutes.
Once you are done with that, we have "Technical Ingredients". In this clip we get to watch as Michael Fong, the film’s Supervising Technical Director, discusses some of the new technical challenges faced by the Pixar animation team, including making water look real, clothes look wet, and fur look soft and fuzzy. Go behind the scenes and learn how they addressed these complex problems to make the world of Ratatouille come alive!
