Magneto
One of the few X-Men spin-offs is finally making some ground. Just when we though X-Men 4 talk would rouse up a few new rumors, 20th Century Fox has confirmed that The Invisible-director, David Goyer, will direct Magneto.
Goyer to Direct Magneto
After X-Men 3 failed to satisfy like X2 -- though it did rake in a large enough sum to take the 'trilogy' up past the $1 billion (worldwide) mark -- 20th Century Fox shut down the sequel machine to save fuel for the spin-off machine.
The first two spin-offs to come our way will be Magneto and Wolverine, with the latter farther along. Wolverine will star Hugh Jackman in a film written by David Benioff. Before you ask, no, a director has not been selected yet.
David Goyer will develop a Magneto script that was originally written by Sheldon Turner. Since the film will take a look at the character's younger years, Ian McKellen's participation will be limited at best.
As hinted in the first X-Men installment, Magneto will feature a young mutant who comes to grips with his mutant ability to manipulate metal objects as he and his parents try to survive in Auschwitz. Magneto ends up meeting future best buddy-enemy Professor Xavier when the camp is liberated by allied soldiers.
After rescue, Magneto hones his powers by hunting down and killing Nazi war criminals who had a hand in his sentence. His lust for revenge is what initially causes Magneto and Xavier to become enemies.
