Dreamgirls
Dreamgirls is one of the few films of 2006 that legitimately surprised me. I entered theaters not expecting much and ended up spending the rest of the week trying to convince my buddies that they had to see it - something that resulted in me getting a lot of flack.
What can I say, it is hard to convince buddies to see a musical.
HD-DVD Review: Dreamgirls
I love this movie. The music is excellent and every actor plays their part beautifully. You do remember that it was Jennifer Hudson who took an Academy Award home this year, right? Well, just in case you forgot, it's right on the box.
Fred has already reported on the DVD version of Dreamgirls, but I was fortunate enough to get my hands on the HD-DVD. Before I begin, let me point out that Dreamgirls is the first HD-DVD I have watched on my Xbox 360 HD-DVD attachment; so I really have nothing to compare it to in terms of HD quality. With that behind us, my first HD-DVD test turned out being a strong one. The film's clarity is exceptional on my 56" Mitsubishi television. I never realized how good Beyonce Knowles' skin looked, even under the stress test of HD.
Besides the improved picture, the HD-DVD comes with the standard array of extras (as included with the DVD) plus 12 never-before-seen extended musical numbers for those of you who want a little more from Beyonce, Jennifer, Jamie and Eddie.
