Remember when CG-animated films were an immediate guarantee? You know, films like Toy Story, Shrek, The Incredibles and Monsters, Inc.? Unfortunately for us, so is not the case anymore. Just when we thought there was a genre that found a happy medium between adult and kiddie entertainment, films like Happily N'Ever After show up.
DVD Review: Happily N'Ever After
As a film, Happily N'Ever After will never find itself on top of my animated collection. If you are over the age of 10, you will most likely find the film to be too dumbed down to be of any value. Will kids dig it? Since the film's story does have fun with some better-known fairytale ideas, the film is sure to pass for those eight and under.
Though the story is as weak as hand-drawn straight to video, the DVD does come with some cool little features:
• Audio commentary with director Paul J. Bolger
• Happily N’Ever After? – Alternate Ending
• Deleted Scenes: Lost in Fairy Tale Land
• Featurette: Journey of the Characters in the Enchanted Forest
• Featurette: Creating the Happily Story: Bringing N’Ever After to Life
• From Storyboard to Fairy Tale: A Comparison
• Games from the Department of Fairy Tale Security
Storyboard featurettes are always interesting to me and who can't appreciate an alternate ending? The adults that will go out to buy this DVD will be those pressured by their children. If you are over the age of twenty and kid-less, you may want to take a pass on this one.
