Ryan reported to us “Idol Gives Back” raised almost $70 million between individual donations and corporate sponsorships.

Jon Bon Jovi – omg he’s sooo hot – and keyboardist David Bryan mentored our idols this week. JBJ’s advice to them - these are very well known songs. The contestants need to tell the story and make the song their own.

Let’s rank them from the best to a big surprise/disappointment:

American Idol S6 (Finalist) Episode 8 Recap

1. LaKisha sang “This Ain’t a Love Song” 1995 – perfect choice of Bon Jovi song for her voice – strongest performance in many weeks – great comeback – Randy said pitchy at the beginning, blew it out of the box, LaKisha’s back – Paula said low tone money in her pocket – Simon said I could kiss you (and he did on the lips), so good, nailed it.

2. Phil sang “Blaze of Glory” 1990 from “Young Guns” – dynamic – great vocal – this is where he should have been all along – Randy said other than country week best performance, love it – Paula said living his inner kid, best opening (he performed first) all season – Simon said ok, no authenticity, don’t think he’s done enough to stay next week.

3. Blake sang “You Give Love a Bad Name” 1986 from “Slippery When Wet” – a very original, updated version of the song with beat box – sometimes the dancing is distracting – went dark with his hair – Randy said most original version, hot baby – Paula said leap of faith, put himself out there, amazing – Simon said half of the audience will love it and half will hate it, the right thing to do, brave, will keep him in the competition next week.

4. Melinda sang “Have a Nice Day” 2005 – good vocal – parts seemed repetitive – something missing - Randy said not her best, but saw some Tina Turner, Paula said how does it feel to be a rock star – Simon said he also saw a young Tina Turner, vocally in a different league than everyone else.

5. Chris sang “Wanted Dead or Alive” 1986 from “Slippery When Wet” – bluesy – soulful – but Daughtry did it better – Randy said R&B twists and turns, liked it – Paula said good job – Simon said thinks he did as much as he could this isn’t his style, doesn’t know if it is enough to stay.

6. Jordin sang “Livin’ on a Prayer” 1986 from “Slippery When Wet” – a little bit screamy – it hurts me to put her in the bottom – don’t know why she chose this song – Randy said it wasn’t her best, hard for her – Paula said went for it even though out of her range – Simon said she looked like something out of Addams Family, out of control on the verge of screaming, terrible.

Results show Wednesday night on Fox. What will Jon Bon Jovi sing? I can hardly stand the wait!
