Transformers
The debate continues on Optimus Prime's lips in the upcoming film Transformers. Though Paramount was sure to screentest the film to see fans reactions to the lips, it should have been obvious that the metallic DSL's would have at least been distracting. Fortunately for us, it was CG that made these lips and it can therefore be CG that takes them away. If, of course, Paramount decided that was necessary.
Transformers Updates
ShootfortheEdit has posted a new update on Transformers with news on what is left to do for the film and, better yet, the final decision on Optimus Prime's face in general.
Exactly 2 months form now, most of you will be watching Transformers and posting your opinions on these and other forums.
This movie is about 3-4 weeks from being locked (locked means that no more changes can be made to a film so that it could be release for massive reel duplication).
At this point, there are few mods left. Mike is tweaking the ending and maybe shaving off some minutes here and there. He's waiting for some final renders from ILM and that's it.
The photo of OP in the LA Times should tell you what the final decision is on the mouth/faceplate/battle mask is.
So for now, could we stop and relax on the whining?
Take a rest, and come back in 2 months all ready for more debating.
Trust me, if Armageddon was any indication, you'll need the energy and then some. There will be twice as many detractors.
Holy shit. I can't remember what OP's face looked like in the LA Times image. I went back to the site but now they require me to purchase something to have a look. If somebody could point out a mirror to the image being discussed I would be greatly appreciative and will post the link here.
Update 1: Tyler Wells sends over this link of the discussed image.
Update 2:
Jeff sent over the following email with snippets from Roberto Orci (Transformers screenwriter):
Ok, here's a quote from Roberto Orci (one of the screenwriters for the new Transformers movie). This is his reply on the lips subject in the official board:
"Ah, yes, the lips. So here's the debate: On the one hand, Optimus has never shown us his mouth, though it's an open question if he's always had one under there or not. On the other hand, to see Optimus Prime speak with a full range of emotion afforded by a full face is an opportunity to relate to him in a way that has never been done before with the character that must be considered seriously. If done right, and if the face is true to what we all imagine he should look like, then it might just be too good to pass up. Having seen it both ways now, I must say I can't honestly and wholeheartedly defend not going for it. However, I know your voices have been heard among many voices. We'll see what happens."
And another:
Question: "Roberto: Nelson says the faceplate battle has been lost. Can you confirm this?"
Roberto: "No, I can't. I've seen footage both ways."
So we'll have to see what happens, I guess it can still go either way. If you are looking for those posts by him on the official board, they are dated May 5th. Just thought you should know. Thanks, Jeff
I cannot confirm these quotes as I was not provided links to where they were posted.
Thanks to Jeff and Tyler for the heads up.
