Heroes: Eric Roberts Heroes
When Eric Roberts popped up on Heroes, most viewers thought, "Okay, here's the real bad guy." I mean, it's Eric Roberts! But on Heroes, even Sylar gets to be sympathetic. So Thompson, the boss of Jack Coleman's HRG character, may not be as bad as he seemed at first when he tried to take Claire into government custody.

Eric Roberts Talks Heroes

"It’s ambiguous," said Roberts. "I have played bad guys, so from my point of view, it’s a no. But I think from everybody’s point of view, it’s still pretty ambiguous."

Even though he's working with Linderman, there is a certain nobility in Thompson's task. "I’m almost like proud to say that I recruit the Heroes and to be the guy, obviously, number two under Malcolm. But I’m one of the honchos and I have this ability to know who has powers. And if you can have the powers or at least know who does, so you’re on the right team."

Conceivably, Thompson could use his resources for good. "I hope that I recruit Heroes to restore world peace, that the girl who can change her look and stuff can become like Donald Rumsfeld under the Bush administration and stuff."

Of course, we didn't see Thompson five years in the future, so he might not be around for long. "I’m in the present and the part of the future I wasn’t in, but I wouldn’t scratch me out totally." That said, Roberts doesn't know if he has a job next season. "All I can tell you is maybe."

For the remaining two episodes of this year, expect Thompson to interact with even more of the regular cast. "The only thing I can kind of give you a hint about without really giving stuff away is Greg [Grunberg] and I have a scene in the hallway where I’m trying to sneak up on him. But he could read my thoughts so he’s getting away from me. And we do have a confrontation although it does not end up with his having to pay with anything dear."

Don't expect to find out what the company actually does. Even Roberts can't say. "I can’t only because I don’t know. I just talk about like I know, but I really don’t."

Heroes airs Mondays at 9 on NBC.
