Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix PG-13
If Goblet of Fire can do it, so can Order of the Phoenix. The official site for OotP now features the MPAA tag confirming the film has been rated PG-13 for 'sequences of fantasy violence and frightening images.'
The film is expected to feature some corporal punishment, troublesome brains, intense battles, and the death of a major character. Add in the film's overall darker tone and it comes as no surprise that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix earned itself a PG-13.
Back when Goblet of Fire became the first Potter film to be PG-13 we had suggested that the franchise was quickly heading towards an 'R' rating. Could Half-Blood Prince or Deathly Hallow accomplish such a task?
Doubtful. Even if the story allowed for an 'R' rating, Warner Bros. would never risk cutting out a huge portion of their target market.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix opens to theatres on July 13th.
