Here we are at the Finale. Who will Outwit – Outplay – Outlast and be our Sole Survivor?

Survivor Fiji Rundown: Season Finale

After returning from tribal council Yao is trying to find out what happened. He was not counting on the need to use his immunity idol. Earl tells Yao-Man maybe they were just trying to flush out the idol. Yao responds he may need the other idol from Earl. In your dreams is that going to happen Yao. Cassandra asks Earl if Yao-Man has the other idol. Earl says, no he doesn’t think so – duh it’s in Earl’s pocket. Cassandra is thinking her best option is to form a new alliance with Dreamz and Boo.

The immunity challenge consists of a five section maze. Each of our survivors must navigate the maze blindfolded. Using a medallion around their neck they must locate a key station. The medallion is inserted into corresponding slots to drop down a key. This key is used to open a padlock that lowers a drawbridge. The drawbridge leads to the next maze. Yao is in the early lead. Boo is staying in there in second. Dreamz is making good time and is even with Boo. Cassandra isn’t even trying – why is she still here? Yao wins immunity.

After the challenge, Yao-Man shakes Boo’s hand to congratulate him on the good game he played. Boo is aware his number is up. He approaches Earl with the possibility of voting out Dreamz instead. In an aside Earl tells us he thinks he would have a better chance against Boo or Cassandra in the final two. Dreamz or Yao-Man would be harder to beat.

At tribal council Jeff asks if the voting comes down to a bigger concern about physical threat or betrayal. Dreamz says this is a game for a million dollars. Boo lets it be known he would be a better candidate to be up against in the final two. Dreamz brought up the truck deal – maybe Yao-Man would give him the immunity necklace now. Yao-Man says he’s keeping the necklace. Our survivors vote. Before Jeff counts the votes he inquires if anyone would like to play the other immunity idol, since it’s the last opportunity. Earl gets up and takes the idol from his pocket. There are some surprised faces. Boo is voted out 4 to 1.

Earl is reflecting he and Yao-Man will be friends for life. Who would have thought an old Chinese guy and a young black guy would be friends. It is like “Rush Hour” he muses. Yao is no Jackie Chan. Dreamz tells us he really needs to win immunity to give to Yao-Man. He gave him something he did not think he would ever have.

Now there is a note for the obligatory ‘memory walk’ to collect the torches of each of the survivors that have gone before. This time they are paddling to collect them in the water. After they have collected them all, they are instructed to put them in a canoe and set them on fire.

The survivors report for what Jeff tells them will be the final immunity challenge. How can that be? There are four of them left. We have another twist. Jeff says three of them will be going before the jury. What!

So this is it – win immunity here and you know you will be pitching to the jury why you should be voted the million dollars. For the challenge they will lie on a plank on their back and hold on to a bar overhead. There is water streaming out of a barrel to make the plank slippery. Every five minutes the angle of the plank will be increased by 5 degrees. At 10 minutes the angle is now at 45 degrees and Cassandra is struggling. At 15 minutes when the angle is increased to 50 degrees Cassandra slides into the water and is out. Earl is the next out at 20 minutes and 55 degrees. It is just Dreamz and Yao left. Yao is the next to fall off. Dreamz wins the final immunity. This puts Dreamz in a bad situation. If he keeps his word and gives Yao-Man the necklace he knows he is gone. If he doesn’t give him the necklace and is perceived as a liar, who will vote for him to win the money anyway?

At tribal council, there is much talk and angst as to what should be done with the necklace. This is probably one of the most heartbreaking moments in Survivor history. I feel bad for Dreamz. Yao says he thinks he will keep his word and give him the necklace. Jeff finally asks him if he is giving it up. Dreamz replies no and begins to cry. So with Cassandra getting one vote and Yao-Man the other three, he is voted out in the fourth spot. When they get up to leave the tribal council area, Dreamz takes off the necklace and leaves it there.

Dreamz apologizes to Cassandra and Earl for going back on his word. We see a plane overhead and there is a food drop. Earl puts on flippers to go out to retrieve it as Cassandra is telling us she can’t swim – why is she still here? I did notice there weren’t any swimming challenges this time. Shouldn’t the ability to swim be a requirement to be a contestant on Survivor on a tropical island – I’m just saying? Earl has dubbed them the three amigos.

We are now at the final tribal council. Each of our final three get to give an opening statement. Earl says he is looking for the respect vote. Cassandra talks about making friends and staying true to alliances. Dreamz puts it all on the table and says you all know my life story and what I would do with the money.

Now the jury has an opportunity to ask questions or make a statement.

Michelle asks what was the biggest obstacle:
Dreamz – thirst, Cassandra – fear of water and inability to swim, Earl – only original Ravu left in final three from the crappy camp and so many trips to Exile Island.

Edgardo asks Earl how he found out who had the other immunity idol: Earl replies Dreamz told him.

Mookie asks Dreamz if he told anyone about the idol: Dreamz replies yes.

Alex went all lawyer on us asking about integrity and cheating, lying and backstabbing – sometimes I don’t think people don’t understand what this game is about.

Lisi goes off the deep end and is saying Cassandra was unprepared to play this game because of her water shoes, she then brings up greed – wait the idea of this game is to be the only person to win a million dollars right? She then asks Dreamz how many zeros are in a million – he replies 6.

Stacy says the only difference between Earl and Dreamz is sophistication – I’m not sure what that is supposed to mean either.

Rocky wants to know how they manipulated best by using his phrase – “I am the best ‘kicker’ because:”
Cassandra said she is the best ‘kicker because she listened to people.
Rocky interrupted her and says try again, ok she says she didn’t manipulate, he says she’s still not right and moves on to Dreamz.
Dreamz says he is the best ‘kicker’ because every time he was on the chopping block he somehow got them to vote out someone else.
Earl says he is the best ‘kicker’ because no one thought he was even playing the game.

Boo acknowledges Yao-Man as the best player and then goes off on a rant to Dreamz about playing the game as a Christian man – this is a game people – remember the Outwit part?

Finally Yao-Man is up and he says what happened with the truck was entirely his fault. He did ask Dreamz why he changed his mind and didn’t give him the immunity necklace – Dreamz says he was playing the game.
He asks Earl why he didn’t take Yao with him to the next level – he replies because he (Earl) wouldn’t win.

Jeff reads the votes: Earl, Earl, Earl, Earl, and the winner of Survivor Fiji, Earl. For the first time in Survivor history there was a sweep. Earl received all nine of the jury votes. In fact, Earl did not receive one vote in any previous tribal council.

What a great season! Pack your chopsticks as we’re off to China in the fall to learn who will Outwit – Outplay- Outlast and be the Sole Survivor.
