The Hitcher
I liked The Hitcher. It was a solid, action-packed, violent thriller. At 80 minutes, it was a tight one too. I'm always curious what they cut out of movies so the collection of deleted scenes on the DVD piqued my curiosity.
DVD Review: The Hitcher
It's an interesting case study in taking the air out of scenes. These scenes are all extended versions of existing scenes. Walking around the police station seeing carnage, looking around outside to see who's out there. It's good suspense but they decided to make this action-packed so these wouldn't work.
There are also several alternates of the same scene with slight differences. Sometimes the phone rings with Mom, others it just says 7 Missed Calls. Really insignificant. Sometimes the hitcher appearing in bed with her is a dream. Sometimes it's real.
Extra shots of body halves hanging between cars may be cool, and a slightly different ending adds some alternate blood. But these are truly just minor choices in the filmmaking process. The ultimate vision was there. These are just options for the editing room.
