Al Pacino
Though teaming up Robert De Niro and Al Pacino seems like something that would come naturally, Righteous Kill will represent one of their few times standing side by side in front of a camera.
Al Pacino, Robert De Niro for Righteous Kill
Righteous Kill is being put together by Nu Image's Millennium Films and Emmett/Furla Films with an indie budget of $60 million. I don't know how somebody can claim that $60 million is indie, but I guess now that summer tentpoles -- Spider-Man 3 and Pirates 3 for instance -- can blow $250 million, the bar has been substantially raised.
In Righteous Kill both De Niro and Al Pacino will play cops chasing a serial killer. Jon Avnet will direct and produce with a script by Inside Man scribe Russell Gewirtz.
Nu Image's Avi Lerner and Randall Emmett share their excitement on the project.
Emmett said the idea for the film originated from the two actors' desire to co-star. "They're friends, and this really all got started from that," he said.
"This is an event in world history," he said. "They were in two scenes in Heat. In this movie, they are in the whole thing together."
