Barbarella
It looks like Robert Rodriguez has been swayed by the much lower than expected receipts for Grindhouse and Planet Terror. Not that I can blame him, the film was sweet. Rodriguez is going to try his directorial talents again with the remake of Barbarella.
Hopefully this time he will be rewarded for doing something off the map.
Robert Rodriguez to Direct Barbarella
Robert Rodriguez is working with scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade on the remake of the 1968 film starring Jane Fonda as a futuristic mercenary. Barbarella first appeared seven years earlier in a French comicbook written and illustrated by Jean-Claude Forest.
"I love this iconic character and all that she represents, and I'm truly excited by the challenge of inviting a new audience into her universe," Rodriguez said.
The film will be produced by Dino De Laurentiis, who also produced the original.
"In our vision, the future is female, and I can't wait to introduce Barbarella to a new generation of moviegoers," Laurentiis said.
Universal is hoping to have Barbarella in theaters by summer of 2008.
