Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End
Since Fred is currently out working on other film
promotions and I am stuck up in Tahoe, neither of us will have our review
up for Pirates of the Caribbean:
At Worlds End by the end of the weekend; boo! Therefore, I
scoured the internet to deliver enough reviews to give you a fair and general
gist of what to expect.

Tonight as I watched this third chapter of what will be a very long series,
hopefully, I realized something really wonderful. The screenwriters, Ted
Elliott and Terry Rossio are continuing to mix genres into their “Pirate”
story to keep it fresh. This film is obviously fantasy and adventure. It’s
very much, obviously, a pirate movie with a comedic bent. There’s
also aspects of horror thrown in, but in this third film – there’s
an awful lot of FILM NOIR thrown in. Is it overly complicated? Absolutely
not.
At least not for me. I find this film amazingly refreshing. I can say, with
zero trepidations – I absolutely LOVE this film. This isn’t
like SPIDER-MAN 3 – where I had the huge caveat about the Venom &
Black Suit stuff. Here – I feel the film perfectly wraps up this first
story.

Why do critics generally seem to tear down the “Pirates of the Caribbean”
franchise? Of course they are not perfect films, few are. But what is it
audiences see that critics don’t? Credit Johnny Depp for creating
one of the most endearing characters ever to grace the screen as Jack Sparrow.
Credit some wonderful chemistry from Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.
And credit the magnificent score by Hans Zimmer, some eye-popping direction
by Gore Verbinski and a mass of talented character actors having a blast.
And don’t forget what may be the best visual effects in the series,
from an angry Calypso to an imaginative and fierce battle at sea. With that,
you get the final (for now) installment of one of the most popular franchise
ever to invade the screen, critics be damned. And with At World’s
End, the best of the series, you will find a darker, more complex, action-packed
adventure that will please most of the fans by bringing the best of the
earlier installments for a thrillingly death-defying journey to the end
of the world.

We’re three movies in to the Pirates of the Caribbean
franchise and I still have no idea who Will Turner is. He’s never
developed a personality. Whether that’s because no one has bothered
to write him one or because Orlando Bloom has all the acting range of a
two-by-four is hard to say. It’s probably a combination of both. We
may not know who Will Turner is, but nobody seems to care. There are so
many big personalities in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s
End it hardly matters that the skinny little pale fellow over in
the corner never turned in to an actual character. Big personalities rule
these seven seas, and the biggest of those personalities is of course Johnny
Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. But At World’s End
proves that while his place in piracy may be the biggest, it’s not
necessarily the most important. Pirates 3 is better than
Pirates 2 for one, very good reason: Forget Captain Jack,
Captain Barbossa is back
Since I sorely missed Geoffrey Rush's Barbossa
in the second installment, I couldn't agree more with CinemaBlend.
