Box Office Opening: Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End
You know that there is no way in hell that Disney is going to let go of
a franchise that can earn $142.5 million on its first day; including the
Thursday night numbers. The film took in $57 million domestically and another
$85.5 million overseas.
Last year, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest hit
$55.8 million on its first Friday -- already giving At Worlds End
a small and early lead.
Spider-Man 3 took in $59 million its opening day, but the film
did not have a Memorial Day holiday to take advantage of.
If Pirates 3 can hold onto some good word of mouth -- something
that Spider-Man 3 was lacking -- the film could have a
bigger weekend finish for Sunday and Monday. It's going to be close!
Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End is out in theatres
now.
