Confusions of an Unmarried Couple
The latest film by the Butler Brothers, Confusions of an Unmarried Couple can be described as a just that, a schmorgasborg of confusion. With its documentary feel, low budget production value and sub par acting, it was hard to take this movie seriously even as it delivered its goods.
Confusions of an Unmarried Couple Review
Brett and Jason Butler co-direct this film that Brett stars in. It follows Brett’s character, Dan, as he tries to piece back together his life after the breakup with is girlfriend. Dan is the farthest thing from kempt and it starts to get under your skin quite quickly. The comedic substance of the movie is done with a heavy diet of ‘f’ bombs and sexual innuendos, many of which have been regurgitated for eons on the big screen.
Not helping their case at all is the fact that the acting/delivery of lines/directing seemed a bit rudimentary. Cookie cutter reactions to what looked like lines that were read of a teleprompter at times is enough to make you wonder if they should have just hired some real actors. Playing opposite Butler is his girlfriend Lisa (Naomi Johnson) who doesn’t do much better than Brett at delivering his lines with some believability.
All in all it was a film that I could never really get into despite its sometimes lewd humor and a few situations we’ve all been in when it comes to relationships, the disappearing of those relationships and the fallout that follows.
