Bill Bellamy
Comedian Bill Bellamy returns to television to take over hosting duties on Last Comic Standing. With experience as an on-air host as well as a performer, it's nice to return to being himself.

"I think this is kind of cool for me because I get a chance just to be Bill, just to be Bill, my personality," said Bellamy. "I think it kind of goes back to my MTV days where I could just be fun on TV and just bring the funny, say what I want to say and keep it natural. I think this is going to give me an opportunity to do that, Last Comic Standing, and for all the kids that grew up with me, I think they're going to come check it out."
Having gone through the auditions of contestants, many people obviously have similar material, but Bellamy is sensitive to that. "Yeah, it's no problem. If you talk about relationships, she talks about relationships and I talk, it's your slant, it's my slant. Life is simple. We're all going to talk about something relatively similar if you're living your laugh. Whether it's upset, whether it's going through your job, going through something with your girlfriend, going through loving your car, having a bad car. Whatever. It's just experiences. Or current events. We're all going to talk about Bush. We're all going to talk about Anna Nicole Smith. It's in the news."
Many comedians of Bellamy's generation have begun doing family material. That is a natural progression. "Well, for most comedians, you talk about the things that you're going through, what you relate to. 10 years ago I was talking about being single and going through the ups and downs of dating and what that was like. I was talking about being on MTV, interviewing stars that I thought I would never meet. Cut to now, I'm meeting stars in a different way. I'm hosting shows, I'm doing sitcoms, I'm doing movies. So I still have an array of things to pull from, but I've grown. So your comedy should grow with you."
Now that he is well established in the comedy world, Bellamy embraces the chance to give back to the new generation. "I'm excited to be here because as a comedian, I wish I had an opportunity like this 12 years ago where you get an opportunity to get that kind of exposure. I mean, wow. I just didn't have that opportunity. And I'm happy to be the host because I don't have the pressure. These guys [the judges] have a lot of pressure but they make it fun. I just hope to bring a lot of energy, good energy, and just a zest to the show because we really are trying to discover someone, and hopefully they'll be the next star of a sitcom or movie or whatever."
Last Comic Standing returns to NBC June 13.
Stay tuned for updates.
