Isaiah Washington
I have always been confused about the whole Isaiah Washington gay slur controversy. Was he joking, or does he really hate gay people? I can't honestly believe the latter, considering that the guy works in an industry that has a natural attraction to this type of lifestyle. I'm not saying it's chalk full, but you are way more likely to meet gay people on a daily basis.
Isaiah Washington has been in the industry long enough to be at least tolerant. So, did he say a joke and only responded angrily when people accused him of being full of hate, or is he really full of hate? I am still hoping that 'joke' is the answer, but ABC isn't taking any chances. After months of speculation, Isaiah Washington has been given the boot off of Grey's Anatomy.
Your Fired! Isaiah Washington Out of Grey's Anatomy
Even when you have a clutch character on a popular series, nothing guarantees you a job against anti-gay slurs. Five months after the er, incident, ABC has announced that Isaiah Washington's contract option has not been renewed for next season.
What?! He's a great character! Are we sure it wasn't only a joke?
"I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore," Washington said in a statement released through his publicist, Howard Bragman, without elaboration.
Here's the quick story: Washington said something anti-gay to or about cast mate T.R. Knight. If you remember, Knight only recently came out of the closet before the incident. Another cast mate, Katherine Heigl, immediately went to the side of Knight to seek a response.
"This is something that will have changed the scope of his life," Heigl told Entertainment Weekly last month. Washington was "sorry and embarrassed" for the mistake, she said.
I guess you aren't really sorry until you are fired off a major sitcom.
