Ocean's 13
With only a couple other tentpoles on their last leg, Ocean's 13 stepped into theaters this weekend to easily sneak away with the box office title.
Box Office Report: Ocean's 13
Sure, no records were broken, but Ocean's 13 did walk away with somewhere near $37.1 (domestically) during its opening weekend in the face of competitors such as Surf's Up, which came in fourth for its second theatrical week with $18 million; Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End, falling another 52% to take in a smidgen over $21 million; and Knocked Up, which held strong with only a 35% decline to $20 million.
Though the opening was strong considering that the Ocean's franchise is a rookie to summer, the third installment took in less than both Ocean's Eleven ($38.1 million) and Ocean's Twelve ($39.1 million). Maybe people are more cautious since the last, what were they thinking, installment.
Hostel: Part II was the only other big opening of the weekend with $8.75 million. The film's take comes as a disappointment to Lionsgate and another sign that maybe the horror genre just isn't as hot as it once was.
Spider-Man 3 is still working hard to stay out of range of Pirates' cannons with $4.4 million domestically this weekend. The film's total domestic take swings in at $325.7 million.
Ocean's 13 is out in theaters now.
