Universal Pictures has set Carrey up with the comedy Sober Buddies, which he will also produce.
Jim Carrey for Sober Buddies
Based off a script by Andrew Kurtzman, Sober Buddies is about a hard-partying software exec assigned a court-appointed Sober Buddy to keep him under control during a critical business trip to Las Vegas. A perfect plan falls apart when the Sober Buddy (Carrey) falls off the wagon.
Kurtzman, who is currently writing Mr. Peabody and Sherman for DreamWorks, came up with the idea and immediately pitched it to Principal Entertainment's Danny Sherman, who will exec produce. Sherman and Kurtzman then took the project to Carrey, who then took it to Stuber. Stuber set up the project at Universal.
Carrey has quite a few projects on his to-do list. Sober Buddies could be his next project, but it must go up against Paramount's Ripley's Believe It or Not! and I Love You Phillip Morris.
