Kevin Costner has joined The Explorers Club, an animated web series that he will produce, finance and lend his voice to.
Kevin Costner for The Explorers Club
The Explorers Club will appear on the internet during the holiday season with 12 four-minute segments.
Costner hopes to build a following and then turn The Explorers Club into a live-action feature that will star.
Created, written and directed by Chris Baird, Jon Baird and Keith Quinn of Black Lamp Prods., the animated series is a collection of gothic stories that follow a group of Victorian-era adventurers as they travel to the darkest corners of the map. The first episode will be called "A Passage to Shambhala."
The Explorers Club mark's Costner's first foray into multiplatform content and is another reminder of his willingness to finance projects with his own money.
Since Costner's endgame is a live-action feature, a script will be ready by the time the animated segments air.
The Explorers Club is only the second web venture launched by a high-profile star. Adam McKay and Will Ferrell have already found success with FunnyorDie.
