Apocalypto
Damn folks. Do yourself a favor and watch this movie…
It’s rare in this market of huge blockbusters and sequels galore to find a movie that grips you from its very first frame and doesn’t let you go until its last. Say what you want about Mel Gibson and his moral code, the guy can make a movie. Working with actors you’ve never seen and using a language you’ve never heard is a risky endeavor for a director to get the average person to sit and watch a movie but when your palms start sweating and don’t stop sweating, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Apocalypto on DVD
You are vested in the characters from the get go and you love to love the ones you love and love to hate the ones you hate. Gibson of course spares no one of gore as beating hearts are raised in hand and throats are slashed without a second’s thought. It really is enough to prove to you that you are not the man/woman you think you are. We’re pansies. Just get over it.
And if it’s not the story that impresses you, it will be the cinematography, the colors, the non-stop action, the tribal costumes and the way Mel Gibson throws you in the action with his use of the camera.
The DVD also offers an interesting documentary, “Becoming Mayan: Creating Apocalypto” which shows you the work that was done to find a location to shoot, the building of the sets, and all the efforts to make each actor/actress look authentic.
