In a town like Eureka, anything can happen. For one, it can be a hit show. Coming into its second season, don't expect the townies to maintain the status quo. Allison Blake will have a lot of interesting developments, according to actress Salli Richardson Whitfield.

"Last year we sort of ended where Nathan was getting a little obsessed with the Artifact," she said. "And there was a huge explosion. Because of that, he loses his job and I take over as the head of Global Dynamics, which, you know, obviously changes my power structure there a little bit. And then he becomes sort of back into his roots as a scientist, which kind of draws us even closer because I start seeing the man that I fell in love with instead of the sort of power-hungry head of Global. And then you sort of watch my character; so what does that mean for Allison when you become the head? Am I going to turn into that? What happens to her when she has that much power and has to deal with that much responsibility?"
Developments in Sheriff Jack Carter's story affect Blake as well. "Then Carter's wife comes into town, and of course that causes a little bit of, like, for me, 'What is he doing over there with her? Okay, well, then I guess I'll go over here.' Then he's looking, going, 'But I want you, but I guess you're going back to your husband. Maybe I should go back to my wife.' So we have a little of that going on."
With all of the sci-fi developments, Eureka will still maintain a small town feel. "You still have what the show started with. We still have the fun adventure every episode. I mean, right now they're shooting an episode where it's the week of the science fair, and what does that mean when every kid is a genius and they can get a hold of some plutonium for their project? Everyone's bracing for 'Oh, no, it's a science project. Things are going to be blowing up all over town.' Really when it comes down to it, you come back to watch a show that you care about the people too. So it's just being rounded out a little bit. But there's still the fun and the excitement of the adventure of what's going to end the world this week? And there's still definitely the comic relief. Sheriff Carter is still tumbling and bumbling and figuring it out."
Coming back after a successful first year, things are only getting better. "The show was looking great last year, but you sort of have to find your groove. And the shows look so much better. The writing is so much better. I mean, it's just gotten better and better and better. And I think that it has a darker edge to it, the way it's even being shot. I think people are going to be really surprised that it could look cooler. And Global, we have a whole new Global because it blew up. So whatever set you don't like, it gets blown up in a science experiment and gets better."
Eureka returns July 10th to the Sci Fi Channel.
