The Simpsons Movie
Who knew that there were so many cities hoping to be compared to a dysfunctional one with a power plant? It just so happens that there are 14 Springfields out there and all of them competed to become the official home town of The Simpsons. Springfield, Vermont came out on top, meaning they get to host the premiere of The
Simpsons Movie.
Vermont to Premiere The Simpsons Movie
20th Century Fox ran an online poll on the USA Today website inviting people to vote for their favorite among 14 videos submitted by the competing Springfields. Springfield, VT., may have came late to the competition, but it is they, thanks to their local Chamber of Commerce, that came out on top.
"We're so excited," said Patricia Chaffee, vice president of the Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce. "We came in at the last minute, and for us to win, we feel like the underdogs, which makes this so big and so great for us."
Though the town was the smallest of all the competitors, they were the most creative. The community put together a video showing a local TV personality playing Homer Simpson and chasing a giant, pink doughnut through the town.
Thanks to your votes, Springfield, VT., will host the premiere of the film. The other contestants, as a thanks for playing, will be given mini-screenings of their own on the night before the film hits theaters nationwide.
The Simpsons Movie opens to theatres on July 27th.
