Neverwas Neverwas
Neverwas should have never been.

After watching the latest episode of “Entourage” and witnessing the understood mimicking of what Harvey Weinstein must really be like in real life, you’d have to believe that everyone in Neverwas crossed Harvey at one point and he was going to gut them if they didn’t do this movie. Look at this cast! Aaron Eckhart, Ian Mckellen, Brittany Murphy, William Hurt, Nick Nolte, Alan Cumming, Jessica Lange..I could go on! But when has so much produced so little? Forget about Smoking Aces, Neverwas takes the cake in that department.

DVD Review: Neverwas

In a film that tries to be something like The Chronicles of Narnia, Gabriel (McKellen) leads Zach (Eckhart) into the surreal world of Neverwas but you never seem to really buy into the whole story and are actually confused as you try to figure out what it is writer/director Joshua Michael Stern is trying to tell you in the movie’s message. Too many clichés, and too much predictability makes you realize why this movie never made it to the big screen in the first place.

A shame really when you look at the cast, production value and all out effort that was clearly put into the film. It wasn’t that the cast couldn’t perform, it’s just that the script couldn’t carry them. On top of that, Nolte, Hurt and Cumming have less screen time than M. Night Shyamalan has in his own movies.

The extras on this DVD are not exactly mind bending either. Like seriously, there is nothing but some scene selections and subtitles if you so choose.

Sigh…like a cardboard cutout of Jessica Biel, what looks appetizing from afar turns out to be nothing but a tease with Neverwas.

Stay tuned for updates.
