Ever since the first trailer for Superbad I have hoped for the film to be the comedy of the summer. Everything in it looks so right, including the 'R' rating. Columbia Pictures has begun to screen the film and, as I hoped, audiences are finding that it feels good to be superbad.
Screening Reports: Superbad
The good people at AICN have received a few screening reports for Superbad and they are all very positive.
Had a chance to attend a Superbad screening at the ArcLight in Hollywood , CA last night, and thought I would give you my thoughts. Superbad is about the most retardedly funny, vulgar, rude, and somehow sweet movie of the summer. This is a movie that embraces its stupidity like a juiced up boner and then delights in slapping your face with it.
The story follows three regular high school guys on a mission to get laid before they graduate high school. As you can tell, this is real high brow stuff, and the movie doesn’t stop challenging your intellect for even a moment. Oh who the fuck am I kidding? This movie is filled to the brim with dick jokes, lugey jokes, gizz jokes and enough foul language to frighten a sailor.
The true strength of the film comes from the relationship between Seth and Evan. Early in the film, it’s established that they will be going to different schools when they graduate, and that eventual division influences the entire film. What I thought was particularly excellent about this idea was that it was handled so realistically. Even though all these crazy things were happening, anyone who ventures off to college had great relationships like these guys had where people just suddenly drift apart because of circumstance.
