A few days back we pointed out the advanced preparation that goes into making summer tentpoles and how DreamWorks' Monsters vs. Aliens was already being pitted against Cameron's Avatar for a May 22nd, 2009 release. Far off, I know, but having two 3-D films share a release date (no matter what year) was enough to make DreamWorks open up a calendar.
Early Release for Monsters vs. Aliens
In order to avoid a direct showdown with James Cameron's 3-D Avatar, DreamWorks Animation has announced that Monsters vs. Aliens will be released one week earlier, on May 15th.
Monsters vs. Aliens, an irreverent, modern-day update of the classic 1950s pic, is being directed by Conrad Vernon (Shrek 2) and Rob Letterman (Shark Tale).
Avatar, which combines CGI and live-action, is Cameron's first feature directing gig since he made both men and women cry for Titanic.
Next question: How does one deliver a trailer (online) for a film that is completely in 3-D?
