Even with the talent to be found in Paul Giamatti and Vince Vaughn, it seems that Fred Claus still, what's the word, 'sucks'.
Bad Start for Fred Claus
The good people over at AICN have received an early screening report from a screening of what sounds to be an unfinished version of Fred Claus. Well, duh, but it sounds that the film is so far from good that any edits and improvements won't be able to save it.
The review is chalk full of spoilers, so here is a brief taste of the reviewer's impressions:
Y'know, normally I sorta like Vince Vaughn. And I really like Paul Giamatti. And Kevin Spacey.
Unfortunately this movie still sucks.
Vaughn's patented average Joe delivery works pretty well in movies where he's playing a guy you're supposed to relate too. Thing is, this movie makes it damn near impossible to do that because, frankly, Fred Claus is an asshole. Like, reeeeeeeeeeeally irritating. There are a few characters like that in this unfortunately.
I can't help but be slightly disappointed by these early impressions. I love both Giamatti and Vaughn, and the trailer made it seem that Vaughn was playing a character similar to Jeremy in Wedding Crashers; which I didn't mind at all.
