Johnny Depp
Now that he's faced just about everything on the open seas, Johnny Depp has jumped aboard Warner Bros. feature adaptation of the '60s daytime supernatural series, Dark Shadows.
Johnny Depp Cast for Deep Shadows
It turns out that Depp has always had a thing for vampires. The actor admits that he was a huge fan of the show and always hoped to play Barnabas Collings, the vampire patriarch in the series.
Depp will also produce alongside David Kenny.
With over 1,225 episodes, Dark Shadows was a highly atmospheric, spooky soap that featured gothic horror staples like vampires, monsters, witches, werewolves, ghosts and zombies.
Though the show has been extinct for some time, Dark Shadows still has a strong fan base that meet at Dark Shadows Festival conventions. Revivals of the series have been attempted, but none had the advantage of having Depp onboard.
Depp, who was last seen in Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End, recently wrapped the Tim Burton-direct Sweeney Todd and will next star in Shantaram, a Mira Nair-directed adaptation of the Gregory David Roberts novel.
Though a character wasn't confirmed, Depp's aspirations should help him land the role of Barnabas Collins, last played by Jonathan Frid.
