The subject of Californication is a divorced writer digging himself into a deeper hole with sexual encounters and chemical vices. Yet he still wants to make things work with his ex-wife (Natasha Mcelhone). She is done with his self-destructive behavior and already has a new fiancé, but the actress expects things to develop further as the series evolves.
McElhone to Get Fornicated in Californication
"I think she's having a good time," she said. "I think she ends up having a good time. She's got a great life. She has a shoving match. I think possibly she'll end up being more sort of irreverent and less by the book than we first imagined and perhaps is as guilty of hypocrisy. I don't know."
A highly critical performer, McElhone has a hard time accepting her own performance, let alone evaluating her character's storyline. "I'm never satisfied. Not in a good way. This has been a real education for me, doing series TV because rather than that finished product that you'll get with a play or even a film script, sometimes that kind of gets knocked own and that's it and you have to shoot it. Is this has been incredibly liberating to see that if there's something that doesn't feel quite right, it's okay. On the day, particularly with someone like Tom [Kapinos], you can mess about with it. You can try something else. Quite often, you end up doing it the way it's written but you sort of have a little journey to get there."
