Jackie Chan
The Forbidden Kingdom is a different sort of movie for Jackie Chan. He usually avoids special effects in favor of real world magic. The highly anticipated collaboration with Jet Li hardly needs enhancement, but it sounds like this movie will have it all.
Jackie Tries Special Effects in the Forbidden Kingdom
"Forbidden Kingdom is kind of like the Chinese Lord of the Rings," said Chan. "Jet Li and me, New York, Ching Dynasty. I'm the old monk and I'm the immortal. All kinds of fighting, a lot of special effects."
If it is indeed the Chinese Lord of the Rings, this may be only the beginning. Chan thinks it will be a complete standalone though. "One picture. One picture. The writer, I think he loves Chinese culture. He tried to write everything into the movie. There's a Ching Dynasty, there's a monkey, there's an immortal."
Such an epic is daunting to the fast paced Chan. "Only thing I'm scared is too long the movie. I think at least two hours."
To pack everything in does not come cheap. "I think the budget $80 million but in China, 80 compared to US [is worth] 200 million."
