(All the way) back in January it was rumored thatLast King of Scotland's James McAvoy would be playing the role of Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in Star Trek. Though we haven't heard anything since, but now, only arriving yesterday, is a new confirmation that the actor is indeed set for the role.
2nd Confirmation: James McAvoy is Montgomery "Scotty" Scott
The Sunday Mirror reports that McAvoy will be the one who beams the other characters aboard the Enterprise.
Shameless star James McAvoy will boldly go where no Scot has gone before - playing Scotty in Star Trek.
The 28-year-old actor has won the role of chief engineer of the Starship Enterprise, immortalized in Captain Kirk's phrase "Beam me up, Scotty".
Glaswegian James, acclaimed for his roles in the Channel 4 drama and hit film Last King of Scotland, will play Scotty as a young man. It's the first time the Scottish character has been played by a real Scot. The original Scotty, Canadian James Doohan, died aged 84 in 2005.
While the original Scotty, James Doohan, made up the Scottish accent as he believed the best engineers were Scots, James McAvoy's will come naturally.
