Superbad
It looks like he is officially out of retirement. After ending a decade-long gap between directing feature films with Superbad, Greg Mottola is already onboard to helm Adventureland for Miramax.
From Superbad to Adventureland
Mottola is looking to take on double duties for Adventureland, as the film will also be scripted by the director.
Adventureland takes play in the summer of 1987 and concerns an uptight recent college grad who's forced to take a minimum-wage job at the local amusement park after realizing he can't afford his dream European tour. The experience helps him to loosen up a bit as he finds first love, forms new friendships and matures just in time to enter the real world in the fall.
The Squid and the Whale's Jesse Eisenberg is attached to play the title character.
"It's so rare to read a smart comedy like this one with great characters and emotional depth," said Miramax production president Keri Putnam.
Ted Hope, who is onboard to produce, points out Mottola's newfound popularity.
"He finished the script for Adventureland the same day Judd Apatow called him for Superbad. No one knew what that would turn out to be, and suddenly this became a pretty intriguing proposition, as well as being a great script."
Adventureland is set to enter production this fall in Pittsburgh.
