The rumors are true, Owen Wilson had been hospitalized for an attempted suicide. With Tropic Thunder, Wilson's next project, set to enter production immediately, the actor had to be dropped from the DreamWorks' comedy.
Owen Wilson Off Tropic Thunder
Ben Stiller began shooting Tropic Thunder in Hawaii six weeks ago, and there seemed like little chance that the production could wait indefinitely on Wilson's condition. The decision for Wilson to drop out was a mutual agreement between him and Stiller.
"Ben and Owen have made eight movies together," a source close to the project said. "And he can't wait to work with Owen again. It's just not going to be on this film."
The duo has starred together on a number of films including Starsky & Hutch, Zoolander and Night at the Museum.
At the moment, Jack Black is left with no co-star, and it is now being stipulated on whether DreamWorks will recast the role or eliminate it completely.
Tropic Thunder tells the story of group of actors shooting a big-budget war movie who are forced to become the soldiers they are portraying.
Owen Wilson has been in the hospital since Sunday night.
