Halloween Halloween

Even serial killers have moms, even the famous movie monsters. Michael Myers had one too. We see the parents come home shocked in the original Halloween. In Rob Zombie's remake, we get to know the Myers' parents. Sheri Moon Zombie plays Deborah Myers, an exotic dancer living with an abusive deadbeat, but she's trying to protect her boy.

Halloween With a Zombie

"Rob did a great job writing those scenes and developing the whole first third of the movie," said Zombie. "It's interesting that you think Debra could have pulled Michael out of that. I don't think so. I think Michael Myers is essentially born bad. Certainly there are elements to his home life that were abusive and contribute to how he turned into the serial killer, in his school life too. Those are contributing factors but I think ultimately he was just born bad."

Since the character is hardly seen in the original, Deborah is an original creation of the Zombie couple. "I probably would have felt a little pressure to live up to an existing character but I think it's more difficult to develop and make a character your own because you have nothing to go off of. You're really just making it up on your own. It's interesting."

As a woman, she can also understand why Deborah would be with such a boyfriend. "Well, there's many, many thousands, millions of women in America, in the world who are with abusive guys. I just think every woman wants to be loved and some people are just very insecure and take what they can get."

With her boss living at home with her, Zombie worked on the character during early stages of development. "Well, of course when Rob wrote the part, we discussed the character and what he expected from the character. We really discussed all aspects from wardrobe and makeup and hair and everything. By the time we discussed it so much and go through the lines and rehearse, it really just comes to me."

Once in production, the working relationship just continued. "We've worked together for so long now with being on tour and the videos and everything. It's nice. It's nice to be able to work together and still get along in our personal lives. Sometimes it gets overwhelming at the house because there's never really a break. We'll get our break August 31st when the movie comes out, and yet there still won't be a break because they'll be talking about tracking and numbers and box office and this and that. We sort of, things come to a head and I'm like, 'Listen, we've been talking about this for 24 hours. Let's take Saturday off and go have a life.' So we balance things out."

Halloween is out in theaters now.
