It's official. Monica Bellucci can make any role classy. She plays a lactating prostitute in a fetish brothel in Shoot 'Em Up. It's necessary to the plot because the hero (Clive Owen) has a newborn baby to protect, and he needs to feed. Bellucci walks through the outrageous action antics with the same poise and grace she always brings to film.

Bellucci on Shoot 'Em Up

"When I read the script I was in Europe," said Bellucci. "And I said when I read the script, 'It was crazy and how he is going to make this movie?' So I went to Los Angeles and met Michael Davis and then he told me about everything he wanted to do and I said, 'Yes, I want to do it.'"

It turns out, this sort of thing is right up Bellucci's alley. "I had so much fun playing DQ because she’s totally free. She does dangerous, dark, dirty things but in a playful way. It’s like the movie, the movie is a comedy, it’s over the top, it’s like video games in some way. Of course, it’s violent but it’s also rock and roll, sexy, dark, scary, with a lot of humor in it."

Still, she had to brush up on her sex education to make sure she knew what she was playing. "This was in the script, but actually for me it was I didn’t know anything about lactating stuff. So when I read the script I said, 'What is this?' Then he explained to me and did a big research about lactating prostitutes. Actually you kind of understand she’s lactating because she doesn’t need to make love with men in some way. Her child was killed by her pimp so she doesn’t want to have violent men around her so that’s why she became lactating. There’s a reason for everything in this movie."

Among the film's wild action scenes is a sex scene between Clive Owen and Bellucci, while he takes out bad guys without missing a thrust. "For me the difficult scene I had to do was the love scene because it’s an action scene at the same time. We had to rehearse and make it looks sexy but it was dangerous."

Ever the pro, Bellucci got through the whole scene quickly. "I think one day maybe."

Shoot 'Em Up opens to theaters this Friday, September 7th.
