Though the Is haven't been dotted just yet, commercial director Joseph Kosinski is in final negotiations to direct "the next chapter" of Tron. Just to prove that Disney means business, they plan to have Steven Lisberger on hand to produce.
Who is that? It just so happens that Lisberger co-wrote and directed the original Tron.
Next Chapter of Tron with Kosinski at the Helm
The script for the sequel to Tron is currently being written by Lost scribes Eddie Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. Kosinski, whose popularity seems to be on the rise, will have input on both the script and the film's visual development.
The first film to ever use computer-generated images instead of models -- today every film uses them -- Tron told the story of a computer programmer thrust into a computer to battle in the very same game that he help create. The cult classic is remembered for its sci-fi gladiator-style battles and groundbreaking special effects.
To get Disney to take a chance with Tron, Lisberger shot and showcased a test reel involving the deadly Frisbee battle. Visual effects personnel are already battling for the position to work on the Light Cycle sequence for this sequel/remake.
Kosinski has recently signed on with Warner Bros. to also direct the remake of Logan's Run. The commercial director has been growing in popularity at an accelerated rate after moving out to Los Angeles thanks to a suggestion by director David Fincher.
