When Jon Stewart was picked up to host the 2006 Academy Awards I was stoked. Having fallen in love with The Daily Show host's humor through Comedy Central, I figured his confidence and light-hearted approach to comedy would be a perfect fit for the awards show. He wasn't as amazing as I had hoped -- I will admit that my expectations were partly political and outrageous -- but he was still good, and it now looks like he is back for a second try.
Jon Stewart to Return to the Academy?
New York Times has discovered that Jon Stewart is hoping to make his way back up to the Oscar podium. The publication has learned that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is expected to bring back Stewart to host after performing up to expectations in 2006.
Both the Academy and Stewart's publicist have declined to comment.
The show will be produced by Gil Cates, the same dude who produced the show when Stewart stood behind the podium last time.
Though Stewart's 38.9 viewers couldn't compare to the Academy pro, Billy Crystal, the host should find an increased audience this year with more awareness of both him and this year's films.
