The new season of Heroes brings in more new characters while continuing the stories of the old characters. In many ways, it continues the tradition of season one where we were still learning about characters' powers. Tim Kring even revealed that most of the new cast members have not yet met the regular ensemble.
Kring on Heroes: Generations
"There hasn't been a lot of it working with the existing cast so far," said Kring. "Several of the new actors, not several, but a couple of the new actors' storylines are very much what the show was at the very beginning of the series which were these separate storylines. So it's self-contained. There has not been a lot of interaction so far. There is a kind of continuum that feels very much a part of the lexicon of the show."
There are only so many powers people can have, and Kring hinted that he may be double dipping the well, but in a cool way. "The truth is there are only a few really cool powers and then everything else is sort of variations upon those. So we're positing a theory that this is happening all over the world to multiple people, so there can't be only one guy who can fly. There can't be only one guy who can turn invisible. So it would be silly to think that. There is a duplication of some of the powers but the powers to me have always been very minor aspects of the show. It's what's happening to the characters, how these powers are affecting their lives that is still the stuff of the drama of the show."
Returning characters will face some new problems, and some will go back to their own tricks. HRG (Jack Coleman) will resume secrecy. "The truth is, most of us are really just who we are. We can redeem ourselves in certain ways but there are certain character traits of who we are that just keep coming back into our lives. I would not say that HRG's character is bad or evil. He is a very pragmatic person and as a company man who had to do things for the company, he takes that same zeal and that same zealousness and puts it to use as protecting his family. So those same traits just come out for a different purpose."
Although, why are we still calling him HRG? We know his name is Noah. "Well, we know that his name is Noah but in terms of internally on the show and on the scripts, he is just continuing to be HRG because that is what he was always called."
Nikki Sanders (Ali Larter) has absorbed her split personality, Jessica, but that is not the end of her journey. "Well, the trick with that character is that we will learn that the separate characters were a byproduct of something else that we're going to learn about fairly early on in the season. That character is going through a transformation for the audience."
