The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
While the first set of reviews we read for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford were mixed, the latest ones to surface couldn't be more positive. Having greatly enjoyed 3:10 to Yuma as an example of what the Western genre can bring back to Hollywood, I have only high hopes for Jesse James. Sure, I hate the film's extraordinarily long title, but will let that slide for now. Besides, why not tell audiences exactly what the film's about?
Movie Reviews: The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
While 3:10 to Yuma sounds to be the more adventure-story Western, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is satisfying audiences with more dialogue and an artsier approach.
AICN (screening report)
I was lucky enough to see THE ASSASINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD last night and I wanted to write in to express a few thoughts. I want to emphasize that this is less of a film review and more of an announcement because this film is a watershed moment for two people: Andrew Domink and Casey Affleck. This is simply one geek talking to a room full of geeks about some shit that they need to understand. Over the coming months as we wade into awards season, you will hear a lot about the performances that Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck give in this film, and more about them later, but the man that I want to bring to your attention is Andrew Dominik.
THE ASSASINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD is the best film that I’ve seen this year and I look forward to Andrew Dominik’s next.
Joblo (10/10)
Now, the title says it all. This is about the assassination of Jesse James but it is much more than that. It is a tremendously beautiful journey into a time when outlaws were heroes that stole from the rich and gave to the poor. Whether it was true or not, Jesse was a legend whom every child would dream of being. And today, he is still by popular belief thought of as heroic, unlike his assassin, the man who was entrusted into his life yet grew increasingly dissatisfied with the man he worshipped. Robert Ford would never see the fame he so desperately wanted. He was only to have a taste of it while following in the footsteps of his hero.
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford has a limited release on September 21st.
