It's been a long time in the making, plus a prolonged disappearance, but we (finally) have the first trailer for Southland Tales in Quicktime high-definition!
Movie Trailer: Southland Tales
Southland Tales is an ensemble piece set in the futuristic landscape of Los Angeles on July 4, 2008, as it stands on the brink of social, economic and environmental disaster. Johnson will star as Boxer Santaros, an action star stricken with amnesia whose life intertwines with Krysta Now (Gellar), an adult film star developing her own reality television project, and David Clark (Scott), a Hermosa Beach police officer who holds the key to a vast conspiracy.
When the trailer began I felt Richard Kelly all over it. That look of older footage, as if taken by an early '90s soccer mom, too cool. But then the preview quickly switches gears and gets all amped about the future, which seems to come and go in this film. One second we're here, and next second things start tripping out. Seriously, did I eat shrooms this morning?
Oh, and if somebody can figure out what the hell is going on, please feel free to tell me.
There is no doubt that Southland Tales is a bigger production than Donnie Darko. More settings, an ensemble cast and better special effects, but will it be able to stand up to what made Richard Kelly great?
